CGI Advertising Could Face Ban In UK
April 24th, 2006 by Pugwash | General
According to MCV the use of CGI footage in video game advertising could be banned in the UK following complaints by consumers that the in game footage for Activisions Call Of Duty 2 aren’t camparable with those shown on the commercial.
Many gamers have known this for years but it seems the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre (BACC) have been completely oblivious to the situation:
“If this has happened in the past, it’s happened without our knowledge,” admitted the BACC copy group manager Matthew Baily. “We ask all companies whether any imagery used is from the gameplay or is CGI footage from the game before we pass an ad for broadcast. The system is based on trust.”
Since then commercials for games such as Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfigher have been forced to carry “Not In-Game Footage” disclaimers.
