Game Development Team For Sale On Ebay
April 27th, 2006 by Pugwash | General
An "Award Winning" Games design team based in Eugene, Oregon have offered up their services on Ebay to design a game in 90-days for the auction winner.
The team, comprising of eight employees with "60 combined years of experience, and 27 published titles", Will take the winners idea and bring it to (partial) fruition "delivering a playable demo, proof of concept, or machinima trailer."
As The Guardian rightly points out:
Whilst probably intended as a fun exercise for a bunch of talented and creative chancers, the Eugene team unknowingly are making a statement about the current business model of the interactive entertainment industry. As it currently stands, most games companies bankroll their employees on a long-term basis, effectively granting retainers to talent between projects to the (occasional) detriment of the bottom line.
At the time of writing, the auction (with a starting bid of $150,000 and a Buy It Now price of $200,000) had yet to recieve a bid though more than 30 questions had been submitted and answered on the listing - most likely from curious surfers rather than serious candidates considering placing a bid.
