Network Card For Gamers
July 15th, 2006 by Pugwash | General, PC
Bigfoot Networks have announced their new PCI network card designed specifically for gamers.
The aptly named Killer Network Interface card might just be the most unique gamer-centric component created. This gigabit NIC has its own 400Mhz network processing unit, 64MB of dedicated DDR RAM, a USB 2.0 port, and touts itself as one of the first consumer uses of Corporate Network Acceleration Technology.
UltimatePing technology lowers ping’s by optimizing data delivery to games faster while PingThrottle technology allows users to increase or decrease ping’s accordingly. GameFirst Technology prioritizes network packets for games instead of background downloading utilities such as BitTorrent.
Harlan Beverly, CEO of Bigfoot Networks:
"Killer goes way beyond just offloading the network processing. Its designed specifically for online video games, which means it handles gaming data in faster and more responsive ways so gamers can experience lower Pings and have a real advantage in online games."
The card is also upgradeable with its Flexible Network Architecture which allows anyone to code programs that can take advantage of the network processor.
The Killer NIC will be available starting on August 16th with no mention of pricing as yet.
