Xbox Live Arcade Finally Gets Some New Content – Street Fighter 2!
July 28th, 2006 by MoominPapa | General, Xbox 360
There has finally been some good news for users of Xbox live market place. In the last few weeks some desperately needed new games have arrived, with more to come in the following weeks.
The games have been released for download on Wednesdays, which comes at a nice time of the week after buying your new DVD’s on the Monday, then buying the latest games on the Friday, and at the budget price of Xbox live arcade games, won’t hurt your wallet too much.
Last weeks release was Cloning Clyde. I have no idea what it is about but it costs 800 Microsoft points and probably has something to do with clones. This weeks release is GALAGA, which is only half the price at 400 points, and having played the demo, is an excellent conversion for the 360.
The best is yet to come though. Gamers have been waiting impatiently for Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting for a couple of months now, and have been cruelly teased by Microsoft, with the release of a few gamer pictures in the arcade section of the marketplace, at around the same time as the game was thought to be coming out.
The wait is nearly at an end though, Street Fighter is supposed to be coming out next week on Wednesday the 2nd of August. This release date is pretty certain but I am not going to hold my breath until I am dragon punching Chun Li for a perfect. I have not been able to find the price yet, but in my opinion, even if it costs 800 points, it will be worth every penny.
The main draw of Street Fighter, obviously, will be the multiplayer on Live. Apparently there are going to be some innovative features, including a winner stays on “quarter mode”. The clue is in the name, players will add virtual quarters to the games on live to challenge players, like you would in a real arcade. This will truly bring the arcade into the living room, except without the Hoodies and fruit machines.
As with other Live Arcade games, Street fighter has been upgraded to high definition, so it shouldn’t look too shabby, but there is no word on whether the control area is fully configurable or not.
Roll on next week, then its time to start waiting for Mortal Kombat…
