Electronic Arts and the Professional Golfers’ Association have extended the deal in which EA make PGA branded golf games for a further six years. This should also mean that we get more Tiger Woods games, provided the sports star is willing. A spokesman for the PGA had this to say:pga.jpg

"The PGA Tour is excited to continue our relationship with EA. Our video game provides a great entry into golf for kids and allows our brand to reach multiple generations throughout the world,"

It has been over 15 years since the original PGA golf game was released on the PC, and various iterations have appeared on almost every viable home platform ever since. Both EA and the PGA have profited from the partnership over the years.easport.jpg

"The PGA Tour has been a great partner and we look forward to creating new and innovative products with them that continue to raise the standards for the sports video game genre." Said EA’s Frank Gibeau.

Yearly releases have kept the game fresh and up to date, but it was in 1998 when the PGA games became Tiger Woods games with the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour. So far there have been nine games with Woods’ name attached (not including the versions for different platforms), and the next game, Tiger Woods ’07, is due in the autumn on the 27th of October, along with a huge marketing drive.

EA are yet to formerly announce which platforms the game will be released on but online stores are taking pre-orders for all of the current consoles PS3 and Wii. There are to be more new features in this latest version too, including ESPN integration, where you get the latest sports updates and breaking news from ESPN through an always on ticker, which sounds like quite an interesting addition. Though I am wondering whether this will just be a ploy used to pipe advertising to us as we play?
