Captains Log…

August 16th, 2006 by MoominPapa | General, PC, Xbox 360

On Monday, Bethesda Softworks announced, in a press release, that all the actors that played the captains in the star trek films and series will be lending their voices to the forthcoming game, Star Trek: Legacy. This included William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks, and my favourite, Kate Mulgrew.

This, apparently, marks the first occasion in which all of the actors who played captains have worked together in one project (as long as you ignore Jeffrey Hunter as captain Christopher Pike). Says William Shatner:

“I am delighted to have the chance to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Trek with my fellow captains by providing our voices to Star Trek: Legacy…. Bethesda Softworks has done an excellent job in creating an exciting game that stays true to Star Trek’s roots and accurately incorporates elements from each series.”

Todd Vaughn, vice president of development, Bethesda Softworks:

“We are absolutely thrilled to have the five actors who portrayed the Star Trek captains take part in this project… Their participation, especially since it takes place during the series’ 40th anniversary, will add to the fun and excitement of the game and emphasizes our commitment to provide fans with the most authentic Star Trek experience possible.”

In Star Trek: Legacy, you will play the role of an admiral, and control a task force of war ships through small to large-scale battles in real time combat. There is promised to be a single player mode and an extensive multiplayer mode, which should be popular with fans on Xbox Live. The story will also span the entire history of the Star Trek series’ and films, hence the involvement of all the captains.

Legacy should be out this autumn, on the 360 and PC, to coincide with the 40th anniversary of star trek this fall. This makes me feel old, as I was only playing the 25th anniversary Trek game the other day, though not as old as the original crew. Hopefully this game can keep fans satisfied until the much-anticipated Star Trek online arrives.
