First Glimpse Of New Ultima Client
August 20th, 2006 by Pugwash | General, PC
Aaron Cohen (known online as Darkscribe), the current producer of Ultima Online, has released some details of a new client the company has been working on, entitled "Kingdom Reborn", expected to be released sometime in 2007.
The client is said to have been in development for the past eight months now, It is being completely rebuilt with improved graphics and an easier to use interface, but will however maintain low system specs compared to other MMORPG’s.
The improved client will be an "in-place" upgade, meaning existing players will keep all their items, characters, and houses they’ve accumulated over the past nine years.
More details will follow by the end of the year so in the meantime you can check out our Hi-res screenshots (1, 2, 3), taken from this teaser slideshow.

[...] Hellogamer is reporting that Ultima’s graphics engine has been retooled and scheduled to launch in 2007. While this is leaps and bounds from the present engine, its NOT going to look as good like a next-gen title. The reason? The refreshed graphics are using the existing platform, so if you’re playing right now you’ll be able to enjoy this and still keep all of your existing stuff. I’m curious if Ultima fans will be excited to keep their wares or dissapointed that the game is making a lateral move instead of evolving into a next-gen title. The new screens do look significantly better (before and after pictured), but if you compare this to the upcoming Tiberium Wars you have to wonder what kind of meager budget they’ve been given, as “Kingdom Reborn” will look dated the instant it hits the shelf.
