No HD-DVD Games For 360

August 21st, 2006 by MoominPapa | General, Xbox 360

hddvd.jpgAfter last weeks news that Xbox 360 gamers could possibly need an HD-DVD drive to play some games, Microsoft have clarified things a little for us. They have stated categorically that the Xbox 360 will never use the HD-DVD add on for games.

This statement comes after an industry publication, Consumer Electronics daily, printed a quote from a MS exec which insinuated that an HD-DVD drive could be required for games in the future.

Of course MS have promised us in the past that games wouldn’t require the hard disk, and that turned out to be untrue. But honestly, does anyone think that HD-DVD’s are necessary for games. If a game gets too large for one DVD, just span the game across multiple disks, like has been done since the days of multi-loading on the spectrum (admittedly on tape), through the days of the Amiga and up to the present day with the GameCube. It’s not hard is it?
