C&C: The Return Of Kane

Not the name of the next C&C game, but possibly the best news I’ve heard in the last few months, courtesy of GameCentral. EA have bought back Joe Kucan to reprise his role as Kane in Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. This is good as it may indicate EA appreciate what made the C&C games so fun in the first place, bad acting and all. It’s also rare these days to see FMV that wasn’t cut and paste from a recent blockbuster movie. Generals was a good game, but it felt a little bland without the FMV cut scenes that featured in the C&C, Red Alert and Dune games. With live action sequences you always had something to look forward to at the end of a long mission, and the whole campaign.

It has also been pointed out by GameCentral that EA have actually been a kind of saviour for the FMV cut scenes, albeit with the coma inducing performances seen in Need For Speed: Most Wanted. I could have done without that, but I would love to see the return of “Interactive Movies” such as the Wing Commander games. The best thing about this news though is the possibility of Kari Wuhrer returning to play Tanya if they ever make Red Alert 3.
