For a brief period on friday, Amazon.com began taking pre-orders for the Wii Console, only to pull the offer from their site a few hours later.

Many believed Amazon had sold out of their initial quota, but according to a recent post by Amazon Video Game Editor “Jon G”, the offer was pulled from the site because the rate of pre-orders was far more than they were expecting. Jon explains:

“For a brief period on Friday, we did offer pre-orders for the Wii, however, the rate at which pre-orders came in dramatically outpaced what we had anticipated, so we suspended pre-orders until we are able to get a firmer commitment from Nintendo regarding how many units we’ll have for sale.”

The Wii sales made during the brief period that pre-orders were available rocketed the console to 6th place on the Amazon best selling games hardware list.
